The opening of the new headquarters of sanahuja & partners in Valencia, offered us the opportunity to rethink the traditional architectural studio and search for a more interdisciplinary model. The space chosen for this was a ground floor unit located in the central Russafa district of Valencia, one of the most bustling cultural and artistic areas in town. This new space allows us to accommodate cultural and research activities in addition to architectural project work, out of our desire to launch and interrelate other similar disciplines such as interior design, industrial design and landscaping, linked to the extensive professional structure of our studio.
Hat Gallery is an exhibition space located at the entry to the studio. This space is used for programming a series of activities, exhibitions, screenings, workshops, performances, concerts and conferences having to do with architecture and design and their relationship with art in general. With each proposal, Hat Gallery undergoes an aesthetic and architectural transformation into spatial experiences, apart from the purely artistic and emotional ones.
The studio offices are located in an interior bay, being separated by a small intermediate green patio but connected via a sturdy wooden structure that functions as a distributor and discreetly houses the service nucleus. On the ground floor, there are computerised workstations, model and project assembly areas and meeting rooms. On the mezzanine level there is a large, flexible workroom, with a library area and documentation centre for group work sessions, project and audiovisual presentations, research and brainstorming and creativity area. Lastly, the programme includes an innovation room facing the landscaped service patio.
The use of patios as light and ventilation sources creates a perfect combination of elements for environmental conditioning in the kind of climate zone we have here, improving energy efficiency within the premises by making the most of natural resources.
