El Puig de Santamaría
Located on the Ermita de Santa Bárbara mountain, the project – a work by sanahuja & partners and Céspedes Arquitectura – merges with the mountain, revealing the surrounding stone of the place.
The outer envelope of the project adapts to the conditions of the old town of Puig, using compositional elements and materials typical of the place.
Inside, the house opens onto a courtyard that organizes and articulates the spaces, establishing controlled visual connections.
The floor plan is based on circulation space, a band of services and storage elements. These storage elements and wet rooms are encompassed in “box” -like elements, which are strategically positioned to act as a filter between the circulation space and the main rooms, thus organizing the distribution on the floor of the house. These elements are covered by a wooden paneling to distinguish them from the envelope that make up the interior space. With this arrangement the project always seeks spatial fluidity.
In section the interior circulation is solved by means of a light and very neat interior staircase. In addition to bridging the distances between floors, this unique element of the house also transports you horizontally to each of the floors, generating a clear and simple route. In the double height of the access, it is used to place the glass of the pool located on the terrace of the second floor.
On the top floor, a small patio is used to illuminate the interior circulation spaces and establish cross ventilation to the master bedroom. In addition, this patio through the ventur effect serves as natural ventilation of the house. On the other hand, to enhance the space and generate continuity within the house, the vertical elements visually do not touch the sloping roof on the top floor.
