Construcciones Castaño S.L.
2003
Oropesa del Mar, Castellón
340 m2
Located in a coastal urbanisation in Oropesa, this house sits on the upper reaches of a steeply-sloped plot offering privileged views of the Mediterranean. It was construed as a group of prismatic volumes inserted into the hillside to create patios and diverse outdoor spaces with different sunlight conditions, orientations and uses.
The boxes making up the building are studded with holes for the living areas programmed inside, while hosting and enhancing the incredible sea views, and their diversity echoes the effects that erosion would have produced in a site as exposed to the elements as this one. Inside there is a kind of concatenation of articulated spaces separated by a staircase connecting them on average every half a floor, which becomes the axis of the architectural discourse.
The volumes contained in the programme are clearly differentiated by receiving a treatment based on different colours: white for the guest bedrooms; blue for the box housing the suite and the kitchen/dining room; sand for the living room and studio box; and magenta for the volume containing the pool.
