Urbanización Torre Bellver, Oropesa del Mar. Castellón
This house is located on the highest part of the hill in Torre Bellver urbanisation, facing south-west and providing magnificent views over the sea and the mountains. The project gave order to all the outdoor spaces in the plot, creating a large open parking lot, a generous porch-atrium entrance and spacious terraces between the house and the pool, functioning as an infinity lookout over the sea.
The programme for the house required development on practically one single floor, with the first floor containing only an attic study-room, which on the one hand creates a rich interior double-height space above the living/dining room and on the other helps to configure the external volumetrics, articulating the volumes into which the main floor is fragmented.
The ground floor offers privileged views, and based on its orientation, was projected following an analysis of the functional schemes of the first single-family homes by Coderch, attempting to provide an elegant spatial solution to the articulation and transitional areas between day and night zones, as well as providing access to the main terraces.
The materials used – amber stone, hand-laid brick, limestone stucco and exposed concrete, used both inside and outside – formally define the zoning of spaces and environments, placing emphasis on both vertical and horizontal surfaces and planes (porches) rather than on mass, intensifying the internal/external relationship, which is a constant reference in Mediterranean architecture.
