“This proposal by sanahuja & partners has been called ‘a living atmosphere’. It is conceived as a kind of abstraction of ‘living space’, which is a use that is always present in architecture.”

This was our studio’s proposal for a stand inside the showroom of L’Antic Colonial, a company in the Porcelanosa group. Each year, Porcelanosa offers prestigious architecture and design studios a chance to develop ephemeral projects within its showroom to explore the possibilities of their materials in real-life projects, in the so-called ‘Designer Spaces’.

Integrated in this proposal are an eating table and/or worktable, and a fireplace and TV screen – elements that are always present in domestic spaces intended for ‘living’, although this proposal, by modifying the scale, might also provide the front of a larger space intended for multi-purpose uses, such as a hotel hall and lobby and waiting rooms.

The interconnectivity of the materials chosen – stone and wood – was maximised, as these classic materials contrast with the compositional modernity of the stand and the mosaic product lines of L’Antic Colonial, which inspired the concept. The warmth of the wood coexists in perfect harmony with the stone material, in a design that integrates lighting to enhance the geometry and offer the possibility of creating different atmospheres within the same space. The integration of technologies provided by G-Glass for the TV screen, and for the automated lighting control using the Lutron system, complements this architectural proposal that is clearly ‘avant-garde’.
