Spronken House

This house is a very special project, as the design was made by the Dutch sculptor Xander Spronken in collaboration with sanahuja&partners. Xander's work, based on hand-forged iron, instills character to the house, and the strength of the iron is present in every corner and in every house detail.House located in a mountain setting in the province of Castellón. Despite its mountainous surroundings, the plot on which the house is located is flat and has magnificent views of Peñagolosa Natural Park, thus, the house faces these views. The project is divided into two modules, one for the main house and the another intended as a guest pavilion. Each of the modules is a house in itself, and their layout is airy, with a ground floor and a small mezzanine. Both feature great spaciousness spatial and openings to the outside. However, if there is something special about this house, it is clearly its materiality. The big concrete pillars, the wooden beams from the old port of Rotterdam, the ironwork and the glasswork show their true nature, without anything to mask them. Light also plays a major role, flooding the housing and giving rise, in the course of time, to a play of light and shadow that enhances the expressiveness of materials.  See more
